Steffi: In August 2004 Steffi left for Spain to work for
a semester at the international observatory Calar Alto in Andelusia. She lived at the observatory which has 5 telescopes high up in the mountains overlooking the tourist town
of Almeria. Unfortunately she became ill, spent 2 weeks in a clinic in Almeria before she was able to travel andbe transferred to Germany. Since then she is
undergoing a therapy, mostly in the hospital, in a battle against the lymphoma cells that have sread in her body. She hopes to come out a winner sometime next year, get her
Masters and continue on with her life where she left off. |

Impressions of Calar Alto: The few pictures Steffi took while she was there, thinking she had plenty of time. She will have to
return to complete the collection. |

Dana: After finishing her basic studies at the University of Bochum she
transfered to the University of Hamburg in October 2004 to major in hydrobiologie. During the summer break she worked as a student on a research ship cruising in the North Sea.
She was at sea for three weeks with very windy weather. She took a lot of samples of fish from 10 spots from the coast of Germany, England all the way up to Norway. Now she has a job
at the university analysing the samples she took. Her boyfriend, Toby, is still in Essen making visits less frequent but more interesting. We visited Dana and Hamburg on her
birthday this year. The pictures will be on this site some day. |

Rainer : Rainer is working hard and wondering what he did wrong when he
sees others younger than him, retiring. Up until this year we were still going diving regularly. Last year we finally made it to Sharm El Sheihk on the Sinai Penninsula. Before
that we had fun in other spots on the Red Sea and on the Islands of Bonaire and Curacao. great islands but not the typical Carrabean island which made them even more
interesting. These pictures are also lined up for the site so keep you eyes open for new pages. Rainer’s vacation this year was spent in green, green Loope. |

And me:
My new job turns out to be a piece of cake and I enjoy all the visitors and international scientists. We rented an apartment inCologne for Steffi but large enough for me to stay as
well. It is close to the clinic and my place of work, actually walking distance but I usually take my bicycle to cut the time down to 5-8 minutes. This way Steffi can get out of
the clinic on a type of vacation sometimes during the day since the apt is so close and she can get back to the clinic very fast is something comes up. When she is home I stay with
her since she is not able to live alone at the moment. I stay at the apt during the week to save the long commute time and can work and help Steffi spontaneously. My vacation this year is
being used to make up for missing hours at work when I leave early to get things done. |
