Welcome to Linda's and Garr's China pictures. |

![]() | View from bus on the way to Caiguan Village for the dixi ("ground" or "open air") opera, which is pronounced "DeeShee". There are a lot of trees on terraces here. We thought this might be a cemetary, but weren't sure. |

![]() | Dixi ("ground opera" or "open air opera") is a local tradition that originated in the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) and is performed in Spring Festivals and summer every year. Printed material we were given said that it began as a ritual to drive away devils and to worship ancestors. However, we were told that this was a battle reinactment of sorts that served as entertainment for the army. |
