We were welcomed with rice wine numerous times along the path leading up to the houses of the village. A guest is expected to touch his/her lips to the wine at least, but encouraged to drink. The wine was in bowls or, occasionally, in horns. We were warned not to touch the container with our hands. That is taken as a sign that you wish to drink all the wine in the container. That could be quite a bit, particularly if the mistake were repeated or if one touched one of the horns. china r32b-f23
