The Beginning of My Trip, Part 2

Jim rappelling down waterfall cliff.

Raghu rappelling down waterfall cliff.

There were a lot of these flowers all over.

We got a laugh out of Girijesh's bowl. Guess he was hungry.

The pictures don't do the mountains justice. This was taken as we were leaving Durshet Forest Lodge on the way to the hot springs.

The outdoor hot springs pool. Silver anklettes at left.

Men's half of the indoor hot springs pool. It was pretty warm.

Another impressive mountain.

Starting home from the hot springs we went through this village.

First waterfall. It was much more impressive in person.

Prashant, me, Lohith, and Jim - waiting for Vasu when Raju and Girijesh had their accident, but we didn't know yet.

Continuing on, the motor bike ran low on gas. Prashant went to get some, the others had coffee in this tiny cafe.

I'm always intrigued by abandoned roads, not sure why.

Ladies along the road.

One of those spectacular waterfalls.

and another, and thenthe camera battery was dead.

Beginning my Sept 6th walk, I first looked up the German bakery I'd seen on Google Earth.

I walked to the Fitzgerald Bridge. This statue is at the south end.

These are the falls near the bridge, the first landmark I spotted in Pune with Google Earth.

At the north end of the bridge is this statue, which I really like.

When you have a camera everyone around here wants their picture taken. These people pulled up on their motor bike. The girl wanted a picture.

Going on up the highway, northeast from the bridge, I met my first Ganesh idol on the way to immersion.

The girl on the right wanted her picture taken.

Ganpati stage, Ganpati is gone to be immersed.

A big new IBM complex, still under construction.

Southern gate to the Gandhi National Memorial, Pune, at the palace of the Aga Khan. The top of the gate is full of spider webs and the wall needs paint. Inside it's quite nice.

A mini-slum along the road.

but around the corner and south toward the next bridge east is a store where the Jetsons get their chairs.

I was struck by the contrast.

Girl from the center of the picture ablve.

The rain let up as I finished crossing the bridge on my way back.

Going right at the end of the bridge, I looked down off the road and saw this.

A great many vehicles in Bangalore and Pune say something like "Horn OK Please", or "Honk OK Horn", or "O Honk Please K". I think the idea is that they want you to honk when you pass, but the variations are amusing and I often suspect that for some it is a magic formula that is not at all understood. Usually the works are correct, though the O and K may be anywhere, and I once saw ")|K".

A Ganpati procession just off Koregaon Park road, on my way back to the hotel.

Female beggars all have a little child that's about this age and asleep, both in Pune and Bangalore. The children are not necessarily their own. I hope they are not drugged by the people who organize the beggar ladies, but I suspect they are.

A big Ganpati float in preparation for movement. I suspect that the tractor will be used to tow it. And that concluded my loop walk to explore the neighborhood.
